Columbo RPG ideas

Two things that bring me joy: the charm and wit of the Columbo movies and the offbeat way in which Earthbound series implements conventional RPG elements. One purpose of this web log is to share ideas I've had about a Columbo RPG. Here are some early concepts

Character Stats
Tenacity: determines attack power
Wit: determines the accuracy of attacks
Spontaneity: determines attack speed
Self-esteem: determines defense against status-based attacks
Resolve: determines defense against physical attacks
Charm: determines the power of Special Attacks
Aloofness: determines chance of evading physical attacks

Columbo's Armor

(Starts With) Raincoat
:
Decreases damage caused by physical attacks. Can be "buttoned" or "unbuttoned" on the equip screen. If buttoned, Columbo will take considerably less damage from water or ice attacks. However, "Charm", "Spontaneity", and "Tenacity" all decrease. If unbuttoned, Columbo is more vulnerable to water and ice attacks, but his "Charm", Spontaneity", and "Tenacity" are greatly increased.
Also, when buttoned, enemy attacks inflicted on Columbo will eventually raise the coat's defensive power. This is essential, as Columbo cannot buy other armor, and must rely solely on battle damage to upgrade the defenses of the coat. If the coat withstands around two hundred hits, it becomes the Rumpled Raincoat. When unbuttoned, the Rumpled Raincoat increases Columbo's "Charm" considerably. When the Rumpled Rain Coat withstands seven hundred physical hits, it becomes the more powerful Worn Raincoat, which, if unbuttoned, raises Columbo's charm accordingly. If the Worn Raincoat withstands two thousand physical hits, it becomes that much stronger--the Old Raincoat. and the unbuttoned "Charm" points are raised accordingly. Finally, if the Old Raincoat withstands five thousand physical attacks, it becomes the Old, Worn, Rumpled Raincoat, Columbo's ultimate armor. With this, unbuttoned, Columbo's Special Attacks are devastating.
