Now , I'd really like this Columbo RPG thing to have a totally original game play scheme ( battle mechanics , item usage , exploration , experience system etc. ) , but for the sake of simplicity - and heaven knows I owe her a great deal , my brain unamong them - I'm just going to throw in some generic , final fantasyish , earthboundish type game play ideas , albeit with a Columbo twist . Anyone interested in my previous Columbo RPG ideas can look painstakingly for them on this site . At any rate ...
Columbo Attacks
Cigar puff - poisons enemy , raises Columbo's stamina , all at the same time , with no extra charge .
Hand shake - absorbs enemy hp ; lowers enemy's defense .
Off-hand remark - slowly depletes enemy's attack power throughout battle .
Incoherent murmuring - confuses enemy ; raises Columbo's defense .
Columbo Summons
Dog - when Dog is summoned , Columbo's defense actually decreases , the enemy's attack increases , but the enemy is also rendered confused for a few rounds , thus causing the enemy to attack him / herself with more devastating blows . Dog may remain right on through , say , three successive battles , disabling Columbo's other summon ability . However , after the three more rounds of battle there is , thankfully , a text message stating " Dog moved " , at which point he leaves the battle until summoned again .
Car - Columbo's car , when summoned , both raises Columbo's defense and poisons the enemy . Like the prayer command for Paula in Earthbound , the car summon doesn't always work ; infact , almost never works , but when it does , well ... read above .
Columbo Weapons
Cheap cigar - weakest weapon for Columbo .
Cuban cigar - second weakest in taking away enemy hp , but also raises Columbo's stamina and enemy defense when Columbo has it equipped . By the way , each cigar weapon used in battle takes away enemy hp each time it's used , while also poisoning enemy with initial cigar attack .
Stale cigar - much stronger in reducing enemy hp than the two previous ones .
Odeously odorous cigar - Columbo's most powerful weapon ; also tremendously decreases enemy defense when equipped in battle .
Well , I think that's pretty much it for tonight , though I'd like to soon post ideas for other party members ( Frederick Wilson ; Sgt. Kramer ; and Mac ) as well as perhaps some enemy attacks and abilities . Again , I think a Columbo game would actually work best with its own unique game play set-up , since , obviously , there are no real " battles " in the show , outside those of wits . Seeing as that is the case , perhaps a better game format would be something akin to the Brain Age games ( I've never played those myself , but know atleast a li'l' about them ) . Indeed , there could be both a " Columbo " edition of the game , and a " Murderer " edition ; in the former would be observational mimi games , where the player tests his detective skills ; the latter would offer the player tools in creating a murder scene , much like making a picture in Mario Paint , except in this game there would be a clear objective in creating these scenes : Make the murder scene coherent with an alibi you're given to defend at the beginning of the game . Then , to take it further , some connectivity could be thrown in - if it's a Gameboy game - whereby the " Murderer " edition data is transferred to , say , your friend's " Columbo " edition , thus giving the friend an opportunity to solve your murder scheme . Now , I really hope that that concept synopsis was atleast somewhat coherent for you to get the gist , though I have my doubts ; I spend so much time looking for the right key to punch that I sometimes derail my own train of thought , and through it - regrettebly perhaps - yours . Anyway , I'm gonna stop now ; it's all just too **** confusing .
